What to wear in Bordeaux and when
Bordeaux benefits from an oceanic climate. Ok, good. And what does it mean?
Here is what wikipedia says about oceanic climate:
generally featuring cool to warm summers and cool to mild winters (for their latitude), with a relatively narrow annual temperature range and few extremes of temperature
Well it means that the proximity of Bordeaux with the Atlantic ocean has a significant impact on the weather and on what you should wear.
It also means that the weather can be unstable and unpredictable, even in the summer, even from morning to afternoon.
I don’t trust the weather forecast anymore, especially since I live in Bordeaux!
Mild winters and hot summers
That would be the quick, but the best summary of the weather in Bordeaux.
Mild winters: it hardly freezes. Still, we can have some short exceptional frost episodes. Ask the vinegrowers who freak out as soon as the weather forecast predicts 2°C below zero!
Most of the times temperatures will stay around 10°C / 50°F during the day. The thing is that there’s no much sunshine in the winter so the reel feel can be lower, around 5°C / 40°F.
So what am I wearing today january 11th? A puffer jacket!
Hot summers: It can get really hot in summer. Bordeaux faces more and more frequent heatwaves. The temperatures reached 40°C / 105°F during a few days in august 2024.
What was I wearing at that time? I stayed indoors most of the time! Needless to say than a t-shirt and a short is enough outdoors.
And in between?
