Things you must do in Bordeaux, no BS here

I’ve already writen an article about sightseeing in Bordeaux, including most a the best attractions.

Here’s a list of absolute must-dos in Bordeaux, things you simply can’t miss, even if you’re only here for a day. (tourist map)

Take a free walking tour of the old town

With me preferably. I mean no offense to my colleagues, but my tour is good, very good.

I’ve walked the streets of Bordeaux enough to know where to go without wasting any time.

The tour, which is 2 hours long, includes everything you must see in the old city center of Bordeaux, period.

The submarine base

I’ve written a review of the submarine base, which is in my opinion the best place to see in Bordeaux (out of the city center).

One more time, this former german submarine base is the biggest digital art center in Europe, with light shows or exhibitions if you prefer.

It’s an amazing place, I don’t know what else I can say to convince you to buy the inexpensive ticket to the show.

To go from the city center to the submarine base by tram, follow these steps:

  1. Take Tram C from Quinconces stop
  2. Get off at the Raveziès stop (direction Blanquefort or parc des expos)
  3. Then take Bus n°9 to the base sous-marine stop (direction Brandenburg)

The place is very popular amongst tourists, but also locals. So better to book in advance on the website!

The wine museum

You must see the wine museum in Bordeaux. If you don’t know much about wine, this is the place to visit.

While the entry fee is pricey (23€), it’s well worth it for the immersive experience it offers.

It’s a new (2020) and modern museum, with interactive exhibits.

Plus, the ticket includes a wine tasting at the Belvedere, the museum’s panoramic tasting room on the 8th floor. The view is amazing.

Taste the Canelé

Try the famous canelés. Go to La Toque cuivrée. There are many shops in the center.

Avoid Baillardran. It’s overpriced, and they were recently fined €100,000 for advertising the freshness of their canelés, which were actually frozen.

The Capucins food market

Marché des Capucins is the city’s largest food market, open every day except Monday.

If you cannot go to Arcachon, it’s the place to go for a plate of oysters with a glass of white wine, at a reasonable price.

You got it, the must see places in Bordeaux! And if you want to see more, join me for an amazing walking tour in the historical center!
